ART FOR WELLBEING

Evidence based studies has shown that art based therapies have promising results for a wide array of mental health concerns. The brain’s ability to adapt and rewire itself, known as neuroplasticity, is significantly influenced by artistic engagement. Physiologically, art based therapy has calming effects such as lowering the stress hormone response, enhancing immune function and increasing cardiovascular reactivity.

The integration of art based therapy and holistic counselling yields numerous benefits as it provides a pathway for authentic self-expression, and allows individuals to access and express emotions that might be difficult to articulate verbally.

There are many modalities that may be utilised for making art, all of which serve as a vessel through which individuals can explore their personal narratives, values and aspirations. The creative process externalises an individuals inner experiences, and with the support and aid of the therapist, allows for deeper reflection and introspect.

Holistic integrative creative arts therapy facilitates a deeper exploration of the mind-body connection, acknowledging the influence of emotions and thoughts on physical health and vice versa.

Play is an important element of the arts.
